The nation's longest-running community music school, provides music and dance instruction to more than 6,000 students each year. Founded in 1894 by Emilie Wagner with the mission to provide world-class quality arts education to immigrants in the Lower East Side during the Settlement Movement.

Our Mission

Third Street Music School Settlement provides high-quality music and dance education through on-site, public-school and community programs, as well as an arts-infused preschool, to New Yorkers of all ages, regardless of background, artistic ability or economic circumstance. Our programs are taught by exceptional faculty in an environment that nurtures individual achievement and creativity, affording students the opportunity to reach their full musical potential while developing a life-long love of the arts.

Third Street Preschool and Early Education

The mission of Third Street Preschool is to deepen young children’s curiosity about their world and to equip them with the tools to explore it. Preschoolers are encouraged to grow as creative thinkers and smart problem solvers, as risk takers with ever-changing interests, as imaginative playmates, and as caring classmates.

Partners Program

Third Street Partners provides tailored, group music and dance instruction to over 3,000 students in more than 30 public schools throughout New York City. Third Street’s broad array of programs give schools and organizations numerous options, ensuring that the arts are an integral part of each child’s education.
